Frequently asked questions about Early-Career Pathways
We offer two primary pathways: a Qualified Mechatronics Apprenticeship (paid) for hands-on technical careers, and paid internships across Engineering and Office/Shared Services. We accept rolling applications year-round—summer roles typically start interviewing in late winter/early spring.
Submit a résumé (and portfolio, if applicable) via our Careers page or email careers(at)somic.us with the subject line “Early‑Career Application – [Program]”.
Projects you’ve built or fixed, lab work, capstones, internships, volunteer tech work, and any hands‑on experience with tools, robotics, PLCs, CAD, or troubleshooting.
Yes. Both the Mechatronics Apprenticeship and internships are paid roles.
Apprentices are regular employees with access to SOMIC’s standard benefits based on role and status. Intern benefits align with your internship classification and duration. (We share full details during the offer stage.)
We support job‑relevant training and certifications. Apprentices receive structured learning and company‑supported development; interns may receive role‑specific learning support.
Where the role allows, we offer flexible start/end windows coordinated with your team/shift lead to maintain production and safety.
Some office/Shared Services positions offer hybrid flexibility based on business needs and team norms.
Apprenticeships blend on-the-job training, mentorship, and supported instruction—progressing from assembly fundamentals to diagnostics, precision alignment, pneumatics, servo/drive basics, and field readiness.
Engineering interns work on real projects: component design, test fixtures, documentation, data analysis, and support for build/commissioning.
Through clear learning objectives, periodic check-ins, mentor feedback, and a capstone or final review that maps to potential next roles.
Apprentices typically start in-house; field travel may come later as skills advance. Some engineering roles include customer site visits with proper support. Safety is non-negotiable—we provide required PPE, job-specific training, and lockout/tagout instruction. SOMIC provides shared tools; apprentices may choose to build a personal kit over time.
Eligibility depends on work authorization (e.g., CPT/OPT). We review on a case-by-case basis based on role, timeline, and compliance requirements.
We're committed to an inclusive workplace where people build, learn, and lead - bringing diverse perspectives to better serve our customers. If you need an accommodation, email careers(at)somic.us and we'll coordinate confidentially to support your participation in the process.
